2023 CAREER EMS SERVICE

University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics: AirCare
Today, we have the privilege of recognizing an outstanding team that has played a pivotal role in emergency medical services throughout Iowa for the past 44 years. The University of Iowa Aircare team, pioneers in their field, has not only blazed a trail but continued to set the standard for excellence in air medical service.

As the very first EMS helicopter in the state of Iowa, the University of Iowa Aircare team has a storied history of service and dedication. With three bases strategically located in Iowa City, Waterloo, and Dubuque, they have made a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals in need of rapid and life-saving medical transport.

The cornerstone of their success has always been safety. The University of Iowa Aircare team places the highest priority on ensuring the safety of both their crew members and the patients they serve. Their commitment to safety is evident in their completion of the rigorous CAMTS Accreditation process, an organization dedicated to enhancing the quality and safety of medical transport services. This milestone, which they have achieved for the fourth time, demonstrates their unwavering dedication to excellence.

But their contributions don't stop at safety. The University of Iowa Aircare team boasts a robust Quality Assurance process that has consistently improved the quality of care delivered to patients. Beyond their exceptional care in the air, they are equally dedicated to supporting rural EMS services across the state. They actively engage in educational classes, mock drills, and fundraising events.

Their involvement in research projects through the University of Iowa speaks to their forward-thinking approach to patient care. Most notably, they are currently engaged in a stroke team research project that focuses on improving prehospital care during transport, ultimately aiming to enhance patient outcomes. This commitment to evidence-based practice and innovative care solidifies their position as a leading flight program in Iowa.

Today, it is an honor to recognize the University of Iowa Aircare team as the Award Winners for the Iowa EMS Association’s Career EMS Service of the Year award for 2023. Their dedication to safety, unwavering commitment to the highest standards of care, and their vital role in advancing the field of emergency medical services in Iowa make them more than deserving of this prestigious honor.

Please join me in celebrating the University of Iowa Aircare team and their remarkable contributions to the field of EMS. Thank you for your tireless service and dedication to the well-being of our community.
