2019 EMS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR
Michael Aguilar
Mike Aguilar is the training supervisor for JCAS and has
launched our service into a new educational orbit. We have
become an NAEMT training center, we have monthly skills training
for the staff and monthly run review with timely education
topics. Mike has reached hundreds of people in our community
with stop the bleed and CPR training. Mike has also revamped our
first responder liaison program and is providing education
through trained instructors that is accessible in person or by
webinar.
Mike doesn’t stop with just the actual training though. Mike
wants people to understand the concepts and buy into being
better than we are. Mike teaches crew resource management,
emergency vehicle operator safety classes and is always looking
for a better matrix to the pain management issue. He wants those
in EMS to be safe and smart in their thought processes and not
just go through the motions. One recent example of this was seen
in an email to the staff where Mike discussed the importance of
determining a patients mental capacity to make informed
decisions. It is the unyielding desire to confront the issues in
EMS and the drive to find better solutions that makes Mike the
perfect selection for EMS instructor of the year.
